Mission Style Wood Furniture
Mission Style Wood Furniture, one of the most popular furniture styles of the 20th century, has a distinctive style that is immediately recognizable even by casual furniture shoppers. The qualities that mark the Mission style are simple, straight angles. As well as paneled doors and black pull or diamond hardware. Mortise and tenon construction and plain wood mullions are also popular features of Mission style furniture.
There are exceptions of course to these common design features. Often, tapered profiles or curved bottoms will beautifully juxtapose against traditionally straight angles. In the case of the “Royal Mission” line of Mission furniture, corbels, wood slats and inlays are sometimes displayed, breaking the tradition of the “plain” Mission style. Even within the Mission style, there are numerous sub-categories, each expressing a different aspect of the style.
