The History Of The Armoire
The history of the armoire in America begins in the 17th century. English migrants brought with them the upright chest design that contained storage space for hanging clothes. As well as drawers for other storage needs. The Chippendale, Sheritan and Hepplewhite schools of design (known as “the big three” of English furniture designers) furthered the evolution of the armoire through innovative construction and beautifully polished woods. Finally, wardrobes included mirrors and sliding shelves to complete the modern evolution.
Today, bedroom armoires boast a variety of sizes, designs, and styles, including custom options. Retailers specializing in offering handcrafted wood armoires offer the largest selection of custom furnishings. Options such as size, style, numbers of doors and drawers, hardware choices and many more allow each customer to have a hand in creating their armoire. Also, many handcrafted retailers will even work hand-in-hand with customers to completely customize a bedroom armoire from scratch.
