Amish Furniture, Handcrafted for Your Home

A Day in the Life of the Northern Indiana Woodcrafters Assocation 2011 Convention

2011 Northern Indiana Woodcrafters Association

The 2011 Northern Indiana Woodcrafters Association rolled into the Michiana Event Center with much anticipation, staying for a week’s worth of furniture, food, and fellowship. From Feb. 25th – Mar. 2nd, Amish-furniture craftsmen and retailers gathered into the 145,000 sq. foot space. Wandering the countless aisles of hand-crafted furnishings and caught-up with old friends. I experienced the newest innovations in the world of Amish furniture.

I made a day trip to the N.I.W.A. on Monday, Feb. 28th to take in the sights, sounds,  and flavors. I spoke with a wide variety of vendors and retailers. Collected updated catalogs and chatted with a few about the history of their own businesses. My knowledge of the Amish-furniture world is by no means complete. Even a true outsider to the works of the Amish would be struck by their friendliness and professionalism.

I perused birdhouses, quilt racks, dining collections and even an assortment of home-made salsas (which were quite tasty!). I was struck by the attention to detail. As well as quality and pride with which each craftsmen presented their goods.

To top off the day, the banquet area offered a delicious catered meal.  Everyone left satisfied and happy. It is still several months until the 2012 N.I.W.A., but you can bet that the furniture, food, and fun will beckon me back. And the next time around, maybe I’ll see you there!
